Village spotlight: Housing North
With Yarrow Brown, Executive Director
Q: How long has Housing North been at The Village - and what is the best part of being at your location?
We moved our office to the Commons in early 2021 when we needed a new office space and It was just me on staff. We started with a small space in the main building above Red Spire on the "therapy wing" for the first year. When our organization grew and we needed a space to host meetings, I moved across campus to the Red Drive location when an office opened up.
We love the new location and being able to use the conference room. I think the best part is being on a campus surrounded by great food, organizations and businesses. I love being able to walk to get fresh air and host meetings inside our outside.
Q: What do you wish people knew about Housing North? Good question. I wish people knew that by supporting our organization and standing up for housing, we can make a huge difference in our region and ensure everyone has access to housing that fits their needs. We focus on removing the barriers to housing through communications, advocacy and capacity building. We are here to help provide technical assistance for developers, units of government, organizations and individuals. We have a strong team to help our communities remove barriers to housing and create housing solutions.
Q: Anything fun or new on the horizon? Yes, we are bringing a zoning atlas and growth corridor project to Grand Traverse County and at least two other counties in 2025. We are the regional lead for the statewide housing partnership for our region and excited by the progress our region has made on housing in the last year.
